The key personnel
of Connection Concepts have a wide range of expertise in the fields of
Signal and Speech Processing, Image Processing and Computer Vision and
Computer Graphics. They also have extensive practical experience working
with many different computers and computer systems. Their experience includes
formal education, (all key technical personnel hold advanced degrees),
basic and applied research and practical problem solving for a diverse
range of customers. Their combination of skills, understanding and creative
use of technology is particularly well suited to utilizing the full power
of the World Wide Web.
Gary Whitten, President
Gary Whitten has headed applied research programs in Image Processing,
Computer Graphics and Computer Vision at the Center for Automation Research
at the University of Maryland, the Martin Marietta Corporate Research
Laboratories and the Fairchild Weston Division of Schlumberger. He has
developed techniques for Automatic Object Recognition based on an image
representation he created to simplify and enhance the Object Recognition
process. He has also applied his techniques to Automatic Character Recognition.
He developed a general scale space tracking framework for problems in
Computational Vision, including 3D surface reconstruction, image registration
and motion analysis using optical flow. He has applied these techniques
to autonomous landing site selection for NASA unmanned interplanetary
missions. He has also designed, specified and configured computer laboratories
for Image Processing and Computer Graphics. He holds degrees in Electrical
Engineering and Physics. He has published in a wide area of Computer Vision
fields and has won the best paper award at the National Aerospace and
Electronics Conference (NAECON), was finalist for the Marr prize at the
International Conference on Computer Vision, and was awarded the Martin
Marietta Outstanding Achievement Award for excellence in image recognition.
William J. Raymond,
Senior Vice President of Marketing
After serving as a captain in the U.S. Air Force, Mr. Raymond helped plan
and execute marketing programs for ARCO and Phillip Morris, Inc. at the
major New York advertising agency, Ayer & Partners. At Chesebrough-Ponds,
Mr. Raymond developed strategy to reposition several products in the Pond's
beauty treatment line and helped integrate the newly-purchased Cutex make-up
products into the company. Next, he nationally introduced a new cosmetic
product at Shulton followed by a position at Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising,
directing new business efforts. Recently, he managed the marketing and
advertising strategies and programs for several consumer and business-to-business
clients of The Enterprise Group in Hartford, Connecticut. Mr. Raymond
is a Board member of the Farmington (CT) Chamber of Commerce, a member
of the Board of Directors of the Greater Hartford Chapter of the American
Red Cross and chairman of its communications committee. He also serves
on the Board of the The Tunxis Community College Foundation.
Vien Nguyen, Vice
President of Engineering
Mr. Nguyen has more than 15 years of experience in the field of signal
and speech processing and satellite communication from Hughes Network
Systems and Martin Marietta Laboratories. Mr. Nguyen is the recipient
f the Author of the Year award by Martin Marietta Laboratories in 1991
for the paper entitled "Correcting Spectral Envelop Shifts in Linear Predictive
Speech Compression Systems". He is also the recipient of the Recognition
award by Martin Marietta Aero and Naval Systems in 1989 for significant
contribution to the speech enhancement technology. He has a Masters Degree
in Electrical Engineering and he is the author and co-author of several
conference papers in the field of speech processing.
Dr. Howard Sabrin,
Executive Vice President
Dr. Sabrin has over a decade of experience in the field of signal, speech,
and image processing at the National Institute of Health, General Electric
Space Systems Division, and Martin Marietta Laboratories. He holds a doctorate
from Northwestern University. Dr. Sabrin is the author and co-author of
several journal papers in the field of image processing and biomedical
engineering.
Dr. Suresh Chandran,
Vice President of Technology Development
Dr. Chandran has more than 8 years of experience in the field of speech
and image processing from Martin Marietta Laboratories and the Donnelley
corporation. He is the recipient of the Recognition award by Martin Marietta
Laboratories in 1992 for significant contribution to the voice transformation
technology. He holds a doctorate from the University of Illinois. Dr.
Chandran is the author and co-author of several journal papers in the
field of speech processing.
